Sandustry Aura Extractor Guide

Click the Aura Extractor and drag its nanobot target onto an Auralite Crystal to produce Aura. It attracts Auralite made by shaking Aurixite. Swarm Zoning later automates targeting; v0.5.6 also lets you remove and rebuild the Extractor with crystals inside.

Quick answer

How do I make Aura?

Make Seed in a Kinetic Press, wet it, grow a Flower and harvest Amethelis. Dry the Amethelis with Steam, heat it into Florin, condense that into Florinol, then use an Energy-powered Synthesizer to make Aurixite. A Shaker produces Auralite, the Aura Extractor forms Auralite Crystals, and its nanobot swarm converts those crystals into Aura.

v0.5.6 correction: You can now remove an Extractor after crystallization has started. Its crystals are buffered and return as Auralite when it is rebuilt. See the relocation change.

Design around matter

Four materials that change the layout

Wet Seed material texture

Wet Seed floats in Water

Wet Seed has density 100, the same as Water, so it can remain suspended instead of sinking neatly onto a Planter Box.

Fix the planting stage
Amethelis material texture

Amethelis drifts sideways

Amethelis is a Wisp with density 40. It moves laterally while falling, so a narrow vertical chute is a fragile collection plan.

Contain the drying input
Aurixite material texture

Aurixite resists heaping

Aurixite is a launchable solid with density 200, but it tends not to flow and settle into heaps like most solids.

Feed the Shaker
Auralite material texture

Auralite cannot be launched

The Auralite entry marks it non-launchable. Once an Extractor is active, its periodic global attraction can also pull Auralite away from planned routes.

Place the Extractor

Stage 1

Make Seed, Flower and Amethelis

  1. Impact the Kinetic Press correctly. Burnt Residue must fall at least 25 blocks; a valid impact produces one Gold and one Seed.
  2. Wet the Seed. A Seed touching Water becomes Wet Seed.
  3. Put Wet Seed on a Planter Box. Contact grows a Flower. Gold and Amethelis are the only solids documented to pass through the box.
  4. Harvest the Flower. Weapons or Fire can destroy it; the head contains four Amethelis and one Gold.

If Wet Seed remains suspended, reduce the Water volume around the planting surface or use the documented Clearing Frame behavior to move floating material. That layout response is editorial; the density and Clearing Frame behavior are official facts.

Stage 2

Turn Amethelis into Florinol

  1. Contain the Wisp material. Guide drifting Amethelis onto the top of a Steam Dryer.
  2. Supply Steam from below. Steam touching the underside lets the Dryer convert Amethelis into Dry Amethelis; a small amount of Steam is consumed.
  3. Apply heat. Dry Amethelis reacts with Fire to become Florin.
  4. Condense the gas. Use the Tier 4 Condenser process with Snow to turn Florin into liquid Florinol.

The Steam Dryer does not dry Wet Seed or Wet Sand. Snow can be obtained from the Cryoblaster or Frostbed; its official page also describes it as a renewable Water route when burned into Steam.

Stage 3

Power the Synthesizer and make Auralite

  1. Reserve Florinol for Energy. Florinol Batteries provide 16 Energy per filled tile, according to the official Energy entry (revision 1077).
  2. Recover spent Florinol. Depleted battery material becomes Florinol Soil. The Florinol Soil entry (revision 1128) says digging or burning it returns Florinol, including inside the Battery.
  3. Feed Florinol and Energy to the Synthesizer. The verified output is Aurixite. No official input ratio is published.
  4. Process Aurixite in a Shaker. This produces the Auralite required by the Aura Extractor.

The Energy value and Soil recovery behavior above were rechecked in public Wiki text on September 22, 2026. They are not an in-game throughput test or a complete Synthesizer power budget.

Keep the power branch and production branch visually separate. Florinol is both the Energy source and the material entering the Synthesizer, so an empty power branch can look like a broken conversion line.

What do I do with Florinol Soil?

Dig or burn it to recover Florinol. Florinol Soil is the residue left by a depleted Florinol Battery. The official material entry says it can be destroyed while still in the Battery, effectively recharging it. Burning spreads through adjacent Florinol Soil.

If your Synthesizer stops while the power branch is full of soil, inspect the spent battery material before assuming the Florinol production chain has failed. Keep the recovered liquid and the branch feeding the Synthesizer accessible.

Stage 4

Form crystals and direct the nanobot swarm

01 / Automatic

Let crystals form

The Extractor pulls Auralite toward its moving glowing point. Contact creates Auralite Crystals. This stage does not require dragging the swarm target.

02 / Your action

Click, then drag the target

Click the Aura Extractor. Drag its nanobot swarm target onto an Auralite Crystal. The moving crystal-forming point and your swarm target have different jobs.

03 / Extraction

Watch Aura accumulate

The targeted swarm turns the crystal into Aura. Fill the in-game circle; no exact total is published in the reviewed sources. Swarm Zoning later automates targeting.

Original operation schematics, not the game's interface. Use the in-game hover indicators to identify your target.

Leave room around the Extractor

Global attraction can interfere with other material routes. The official placement tip puts Shakers near the Extractor radius. Keep the Auralite path accessible, then check the version rule below before rebuilding.

Can you remove or move an Aura Extractor with crystals inside?

Removal is supported in v0.5.6. The September 3 patch says that remaining crystals are buffered, then released as Auralite after rebuilding. It does not promise direct movement of the intact crystal formation.

The Wiki still says the Extractor must be empty before moving. For removal and rebuilding, follow the newer official Update #3. On an older build, empty it with the swarm or update before attempting this workflow.

Why is Dry Amethelis backing up?

First separate a failed conversion from a slow exit. The Steam Dryer needs Amethelis on top and Steam underneath at the same time. If dry material already exists, the conversion has worked; inspect the route taking it away.

Dry Amethelis is a drifting Wisp, can be moved by an Aerokinetic Fan and burns into Florin at an approximate 2:1 input-to-output ratio. This is a material yield, not a machine speed.

Layout option: shorten the dry-material route or try burning a small batch near the Dryer with a contained path for the Florin gas. A player discussion about low dry output motivated this diagnostic. Its exact fan spacing, lava quantities and claims about the fastest layout are not independently verified.

Still stalled with the correct input and clear exits?

The developer's September 14 Update #4 (v0.5.7) fixes several causes of buildings stopping. If the checks above do not explain the problem, compare your installed version, save and test a reload, then record whether the machine resumes. The developer asks for those observations because some causes may remain.

Check the v0.5.7 fix and reporting route. This is a general building fix, not proof that every stalled machine has the same bug.

Progress condition

What does Aura saturation mean?

Aura Extractor achievement icon

The official achievement list names the condition Full Circle: fill the whole Aura circle so the next factory tier becomes available. The current sources do not publish the exact Aura amount, so the visible in-game circle is the only verified progress indicator.

With enough Aura, Swarm Zoning can automate crystal targeting. Until that research is available, each crystal needs the manual target workflow above.

Early Access source audit

Current official pages do not agree on every label

  • Auralite state: its own page says Solid, while the official Wiki index lists it under Gas.
  • Aurixite input: its infobox names Florin, while the Florinol page says the Synthesizer converts Florinol into Aurixite.
  • Final tier wording: the Aura Extractor page calls Tier 6 the current final tier, while Full Circle says filling the Aura circle makes the next factory tier available.

This guide uses the detailed process pages for the workflow, flags the conflicts instead of resolving them by guesswork, and treats the current in-game UI as final authority.
